George Scott, the late great bassist who played with John Cale, the Contortions, 8-Eyed-Spy, Jack Ruby and others in the late 1970s-early 1980s New York scene. I really dug this guy, his personality, his record collection, his bass playing. This is from 1979, a John Cale gig in San Antonio at the historic Sunken Gardens amphitheater. It was also a theater of the absurd, because Cale was booked as the opening act for a reformulated version of Iron Butterfly and San Antonio, which ain’t always that hip, much preferred Iron Butterfly. Chubby Mike Pinera, then lead singer/guitarist for Iron Butterfly, jammed with Cale on “Pablo Picasso” I believe it was, and the crowd dug that, and Cale, who has a wicked sense of humor, actually did the Chuck Berry duck-walk as Pinera was shredding. Whew.
