Things change. This used to be Raul’s, ground zero of punk / new wave in Austin, Texas, on the University Drag, which pulsated with electricity and decibels as bands like the Skunks, the Violators, the Next, and Standing Waves, in 1978 created a brand new music scene that shook off the doldrums of the Watergate, progressive country and disco era. Now it’s a sports bar, the kind of place where frats went to get drunk and say, “Let’s go beat up some punk rockers!”
